BIGG Artist: Darren Goodman
Artist Statement
I love the excitement of working with molten glass! It is always a new and thrilling adventure for me to step into the studio and to begin creating a new piece of glass art. Each time I enter the studio, I pour all of my energy into doing the best work that I possibly can. This magical medium captures my heart... each and every time I sit down to work with it! I was first drawn to glassblowing at an early age because I wanted to learn how color was infused into glass objects. My work is typically filled with color since color has always been a deep fascination for me, and it shines through in nearly all of my work. After ten years of working with glass, my love for color has grown even more apparent. I feel a deep connection and inspiration with nature within my work. Nature possesses so many different colors and patterns, which for me is an endless palette of ideas and concepts to convey into glass. The current pieces that I am creating are blown vessels, sculptures, fused panels and chandeliers. My past experiences in the glass studio and my travels over the last few years have led me to come up with the ideas, concepts and processes which are unique to me and my work. It is always very joyful for me to express my thoughts and experiences through glass. Every day I consistently try to advance myself when I begin to work, and I am always striving to learn from my failures and be the very best I can be.
Biography
I have always enjoyed creating things since i was a little kid. I didnt plan to study art and glass for college, but fell into the opportunity and was delighted to bring it into my life. After graduating I made plans to start a glass studio for a husband and wife in Memphis TN. The project ultimately fell through and it gave me the opportunity to start my own glass studio here in Ohio. I have been working as a studio glass artist for four years now. I have a very deep passion for learning, creating, and understanding glass and feel incredibly fortunate to work with this wonderful material!
