BIGG Artist: William Breitbart
Artist Statement
With its outstanding beauty, I am using the material glass for these works as a stand in for the divine, or a perfected psyche, in work that is exploring human development. Since I see this perfection as an unachievable state, I alter the material with an eye towards including reflections of what stops us from reaching this divinity. The use of organic forms suggest the growth process, but through their muted colors and/or intentionally awkward forms and finishes, show a process that takes glass to a place it does not normally go and suggests an impasse.
