Jaroslav Malina: Paintings and Designs

Recognized as one of the most influential theater designers in the world, Jaroslav Malina is a pioneer of "action design," using non-traditional materials and techniques to transform the stage.

This exhibition features more than 65 works of art including his lyrical, layered paintings along with set-design models and posters from the mid-1960s to the present. Viewers will also have the opportunity to see sketches, photography and a video interview of Malina himself.

Transitions: The Dresden Project Photographs by Fredrik Marsh

During a three-month artist residency in Dresden, Germany in 2002 and over 4 subsequent summers, Fredrik Marsh explored the city and its outskirts photographing various architectural landmarks. Encountered during the many extended walks throughout the now familiar city his efforts concentrated on photographing in black and white and color the detritus of human culture found in the decaying interior spaces of vacant factories, abandoned apartments, and hotel rooms.

Art, Documentary, and Propaganda in Wartime China: The Photography of Sha Fei (1912-1950)

Sha Fei (1920 – 1950), arguably the most prolific war photographer in the history of Chinese photography, expertly chronicled the Second Sino-Japanese War of 1937 – 1945. His photographs were also appropriated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as effective propaganda. But these photographs are fascinating for more than their quantity, high artistic values, and historical significance. They played an important role in shaping China’s new national identity─ Communist China─ prior to the official establishment of the People’s Republic in 1949.

The American Weigh: Christopher Steele Collection

The American Weigh will showcase American coin-operated weighing machines selected from the nationally recognized collection of Christopher K. Steele. This comprehensive premiere exhibition will showcase pieces spanning 102 years and take the visitor from the cast iron work-horses of the 1890s through the colorful deco period up to and including the rarest mechanism free computer scale of 1992.

Master of Fine Arts Dance Exhibition

Four graduate students in the OSU Department of Dance present their MFA thesis work as exhibition and performance. These works by Lindsay Caddle LaPointe, Lily Skove, Rodney Veal, and Lise Worthen-Chaudhari will explore the crossroads where technology and the body meet, putting into play ideas of memory, imagination, physiology, and scale.
