Jazz Quartet

Thursday, April 30, 2009 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Cayce Felber and Bradley Mellen return to the OSU Urban Arts Space. Tonight they expand their duo into a quartet with Ryan Jewell and Evan Oberla.  Don't miss this hour of jazz standards interpreted in an intimate setting.  Compositions will include works by Thelonious Monk, Oliver Nelson, and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Cayce Felber is completing her degree in jazz performance at The Ohio State University, where she studies piano with Mark Flugge.  She enjoys creating personal arrangements of well-known standards, as well as performing new music by local jazz composers.  Her musical interests also encompass latin jazz styles and free improvisation.

Bradley Mellen recently returned from Purchase College in New York where he received his master’s degree in jazz performance studying with musicians such as Todd Coolman, Jon Faddis, and Hal Galper.  He currently leads his own quartet for which he arranges music from an eclectic mix of sources, including jazz standards, popular tunes, and video game soundtracks.  He can also be found playing bass and cello in a variety of other musical settings around central Ohio.

Ryan Jewell studied percussion and electronic composition techniques at Capital University and has since studied drumset with Susie Ibarra and tabla with Dr. Lowell Lybarger. Ryan regularly works as a solo performer and collaborator in the arenas of very quiet improvised music and very loud harsh noise. In addition to being a perpetual traveler of the US, he has also toured extensively in Europe.
