Unique Hand-Printed Books: Marcia Preston Discusses Her Collection

Friday, September 11, 2009 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm

From the earliest hand-copied manuscripts through the invention of moveable type, the fascination with hand-printed and illustrated books has flourished. Despite digital technology numerous artists at presses throughout the world continue this fine tradition.

View the private collection of local book enthusiast Marcia Preston, as she shares many limited-edition, hand printed, and beautifully illustrated books. Her collection showcases books printed at private presses ranging from well-known print shops in England to The Ohio State University's very own Logan Elm Press. She will discuss the creation and techniques behind these hand-printed books as well as her experiences acquiring them.

Marcia Preston, a graduate of The Ohio State University and avid book lover, became interested in the book arts while studying calligraphy.  Her volunteer work at the Logan Elm Press with Robert Tauber led to a passionate interest in acquiring nearly 350 private press books which she is always happy to share with others.

Feel free to bring lunch. Local hand-roasted coffee will be generously provided by Cafe Brioso. This event is free and open to all.
