You get the unique opportunity to discover the immense creativity displayed by this year's Idea Lab recipients. Idea Lab is a student-run grant program that promotes the transformation of OSU student ideas into reality. By providing useful guidance and up to $2,000 in project support, the OSU Urban Arts Space ensures that students' proposed ideas will reach the general public. Selected from a pool of competitive proposals, the 2011 Idea Lab grant recipients epitomize the mission and vision of the OSU Urban Arts Space.The exhibition showcases everything from putting art in unusual places to a walk that raised over $7,000 for eating disorder awareness. Idea lab is proud to present the ways that its participants have diversely impacted the Columbus community.2011 Idea Lab RecipientsBenjamin Kent: Oh ArtThe Oh Art Community Project, or Oh Art, is a competition for all student artists at The Ohio State University. It will help celebrate the use of the CABS transportation system by incorporating quality art in places that have never been culturally distinct before. Oh Art received 82 submissions of visual art and written word. The 16 visual pieces, as well as 8 literary works that were selected will be exhibited. Read more about the project at ohartcommunity.wordpress.comNicole Eggert: Film Workshop SeriesNicole and her fellow recent graduates from Ohio State University's Film Studies Program to hosted a series of video production workshops that began in June. During the workshops, students learned how to analyze moving art images, become familiar with movie making technology, and produce creative short videos. Nicole is planning to continue these workshops at the Space as well as host short film forums. To showcase her project, the productions created by the workshop participants will be shown throughout the gallery.Ruth Smith: Collect and SharePartnering with the Somali Women and Children's Alliance's (SWCA) after school program, Ruth developed and implement a weekly activity, facilitating the exploration of Somali and American culture through literacy and visual arts. The students created maps, portraits, and used various other methods of exploring ways that they can tell their stories through art. This exhibit will provide an opportunity for new audiences to learn about the Somali community.Kelsi Schwall: NEDA WalkWorking with her student organization, Body Sense, Kelsi is organized a walk to raise awareness and funds for the National Eating Disorders Association. The walk took place on May 14th at Fred Beekman Park on OSU's campus. Kelsi far surpassed her goal by raising over $7,000 for NEDA and having close to 100 walkers. The exhibition will show pictures from the walk itself as well, audio pieces telling the stories of some of the walkers, and images created to reflect of struggles with body image.
