These visionary artists are important voices in the cultural community of any region. Central Ohio is home to both Goodwill Art Studio & Gallery and Open Door Art Studio. They each provide supplies, space and support for numerous artists who work in a variety of mediums. This survey of artwork on display in Vision Unveiled introduces Open Door's most established artists and a cross-section of Goodwill Studio's established and emerging artists..Standardized art practices, by their nature, exclude certain audiences. While many museums and galleries must institute a "no touching rule" to protect artwork, it generally disengages a population with vision impairment. The height at which artwork is hung is carefully chosen to allow for maximum accessibility by persons in wheelchairs. How we view the world, both literally and figuratively, is a reflection of who we are and the society we live in. Change the perspective ever so slightly and a whole new vision is unveiled.Open Door Art Studio empowers artists with disabilities to develop unique, artistic voices and to experience opportunities afforded through the arts. We believe that creativity knows no boundaries and that all individuals deserve an environment for "expression without limitation".Goodwill Art Studio & Gallery is an innovative fine arts program serving over 100 individuals with disabilities and other barriers each week. We offer the opportunity for creative self-expression, improved self-esteem, increased life satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment through encouragement and collaboration with professional artists. This process results in the creation of high quality artwork that is original and expressive. Our artists gain recognition through exhibitions in local galleries, Goodwill Art Studio & Gallery tours and open houses, as well as other various arts events.
