Urban Arts Space held Teen Zine Camp, summer 2014, to explore the unique and niche subculture of zines! Zines are small books filled with drawings, poems, short stories, or other creative works of art. These personal memoirs are used to share thoughts and ideas about the world from the artist's perspective, as well as showcase artist abilities. During this five day workshop, students learned the history of zines and met several members from the Columbus creative community who brought special knowledge on poetry, cartoons, book binding, screen printing, and more. Students shared finished products with friends and family on the last day of camp in a "zine swap" with other Columbus zine enthusiasts! This camp lesson plan is for adolescents in 6th-9th grade.
