How have people made art to further democratic causes? This Artist Commune explores techniques artists have used throughout history—like photojournalism and printmaking, among others—to combat oppression. At this interactive art-making event, we invite practicing artists to share space and discuss democracy in their own artistic practice. You can bring your work-in-progress or create something new with our free supplies.
August 2026 marks the four-year anniversary of the Artist Commune series, and we’re going back to the event’s roots in challenging the dynamic of traditional art museums and gallery spaces. We want to create a welcoming community where anyone can create art without barriers.
Artist Commune is a recurring event hosted by Urban Arts Space that allows artists and the community to come together to create art, discuss art, and network.
Urban Arts Space may photograph or video the event for promotional purposes. By attending, participants grant permission for their likeness to be used in promotional materials. If you prefer not to be photographed, please inform event staff.
