Blue:Print is a collaborative publication between two Urban Arts Space Community Artists-in-Residence: visual artist Arris' Cohen and poet Ajanaé Dawkins, designed by UAS Design Intern Dawson Estep. Free copies of this stunning publication—the design itself a work of art in its own right—will be available at this evening of community art-making.

Join visual artist Arris' Cohen and poet Ajanaé Dawkins for the launch of "Blue:Print: A Dialogue on Black Art and Divine Creation" through three creative stations for this month’s Artist Commune.

  • At "Notes from Tomorrow," create postcards from imagined futures—messages to your future self.
  • "Memory Mapping" invites you to draw family trees that include ancestors you've never met and descendants you're dreaming into being.
  • At "Blue Hues," let jazz be your muse for color mixing and poetry. Like the roses that grew from cracks in concrete, we'll create art that tethers worlds, honoring the stories that shaped us while building blueprints for new ones.

Attendees are also invited to bring works in progress or finished works to share. We’re all here to inspire each other to explore different mediums and create new work in dialogue with what’s come before.

Supplies will be provided, including paint, paper, markers, charcoal, magazines for collaging, and more. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Free and open to all.

This project was generously supported by the Greater Columbus Arts Council.

Artist Commune is a recurring event hosted by Urban Arts Space that allows artists and the community to come together to create art, discuss art, and network.

Urban Arts Space may photograph or video the event for promotional purposes. By attending, participants grant permission for their likeness to be used in promotional materials. If you prefer not to be photographed, please inform event staff.
