Creativity looks different in every set of hands and is shaped into new meanings through artistic exchange. With that idea in mind, April’s Artist Commune will feature a community-centered collage event in collaboration with Queer Art Club Columbus!
You can choose from a set of themes to guide your process or feel free to create on your own. Inspired by fruit across the rainbow, this event encourages bright colors and fun imagery as a starting point for exploration. A wide range of materials—including magazines, books, and pre-cut images—will be available for artists of all experience levels.
Toward the end of the two-hour session, we’ll gather in small groups to share and trade work. Through artistic exchange, we’ll embrace collaboration and leave with something shaped by the community around us.
Artist Commune is free and open to all!
About the Collaborator:
Queer Art Club Columbus is a free community-based club that helps facilitate safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals to come together and create. They partner with local queer-owned and operated businesses as well as nonprofits that support making all spaces safe for LGBTQIA+ people. Queer Art Club is run by Chloe Milan, who not only facilitates all events and operations but is a Community Engagement Intern at Urban Arts Space. Chloe is a student in the Arts Administration program at The Ohio State University who hopes to use their knowledge from this degree, as well as their experience from Urban Arts Space, to further their work in supporting creativity within the LGBTQIA+ community. Along with running Queer Art Club, they’re also balancing being a working artist and facilitating gallery opportunities for other queer artists in Columbus.
