Cohen, with his exhibition Fervent Fruition, and the dance performances of Nico Lawson in Grieving Landscapes! Both projects explore the complexities of grief. Fervent Fruition is a captivating solo exhibition showcasing the acrylic paintings of Arris’ J. Cohen (Sir’Ra), his culminating show as part of Urban Arts Space’s Community Artist-in-Residence Program. This collection explores the intersection of passion, realization, and loss, where artistic concepts come to vibrant life with an intense energy. Each canvas and wood panel is a testament to the artist's dedication to his craft as he navigates the realms of Afrofuturistic and Surrealistic imagination that bring forth a visual symphony of colors and forms. Grieving Landscapes is a performance installation by Nico Lawson that explores the transformative power of grief through an investigation of grief practices and rituals. We honor that we grieve more than just the death of our loved ones. We also mourn relationships, life changes and transitions, social injustice, and the destruction of our environment. We acknowledge that grief practices are culturally specific and that not all people are granted equal access to the right to mourn publicly.
