PROGRAMMING

To celebrate Liminal Habit, we will be holding a special livestream! During the event, the artists will engage in a dynamic conversation about the show’s exploration of space, orientation, and memory through movement. After this conversation, there will be a facilitated discussion with UAS Intern Genevieve Wagner to dive deeper into their piece. Join us on Friday. July 10th at 6:30 PM (EST) on urbanartsspace Instagram Live for an engaging exploration of movement and memory!

How does space enable and enliven body memory? What is the body’s strategy to extend itself and harness nostalgia in a particular space?

Inspired by the recent stay-at-home orders, accessing what is at-hand, we explore ideas from Gaston Bachelard’s The Poetics of Space and Sara Ahmed’s Queer Phenomenology, negotiating the body’s capacity to extend and orient to a domestic space through physical and kinesthetic agency as well as psychological and spiritual inquiry. As an ongoing process, this collaborative project is researching the complexity of memory by taking a close look at representation of sensation through sound and video.
