The Arts Initiative at The Ohio State University will be displaying a collection of photographs by the late photojournalist and author, John Nance, from October 3 through 30, at its Urban Arts Space, 50 W. Town Street, in downtown Columbus.
The People of the Rainforest exhibition will include a few of the thousands of photographs Nance took over almost 40 years, which chronicled the Tasaday tribe, discovered in 1971 living in isolation in the Philippines rainforest. Nance was an acclaimed AP photojournalist as well as the author of five books, including The Gentle Tasaday and Lobo of the Tasaday, a Horn Book Award honor book.
The exhibition will take place in conjunction with the Thurber House John Nance Writer-in-Residence program. This year's writer-in-residence, Katrina Kittle, is the author of several books including The Blessings of the Animals and The Kindness of Strangers, which received the Great Lake Book Award for Fiction. Kittle, a Dayton resident, will be giving a public reading at the Urban Arts Space on October 23 from 5-6:30.
The Arts Initiative at Ohio State is a financial supporter of the Nance Writer-in-Residency, as are the Columbus Dispatch and the Crane Family and Crane Group of Companies. Thurber House is a non-profit literary center and museum based in the Columbus historic home of author and New Yorker cartoonist, James Thurber.
