Virtual Book Launch: Experiencing Veterans and Artists Collaborations (EVAC)

Sun, November 8, 2026
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
ONLINE

How can art help bridge the gap between veterans and civilians? Join Consequence Forum and Urban Arts Space for a virtual book launch celebrating the Experiencing Veterans and Artists Collaborations (EVAC) Project. EVAC curators interviewed veterans about their experiences, and artists created original prints, interpreting the veterans’ stories through their own artistic perspectives.

The book brings together printmaking and excerpts from veterans’ interviews, sharing stories from those who served in all branches of the military and in conflicts from World War II through the post–9/11 era. Through the process of storytelling and artistic interpretation, EVAC promotes empathy and invites readers to reflect on the human experiences of military service.

Experiencing Veterans and Artists Collaborations (EVAC) is an art project created by Lee Fearnside and Joseph Van Kerkhove that brings together veterans and artists. EVAC curators interviewed veterans about their experiences, and artists made an edition of prints based on their interpretation of those stories. The prints are exhibited with excerpts from the transcribed interviews. Using storytelling and art, EVAC bridges the gap between civilians and veterans by educating the public about life in the military.

Consequence Forum addresses the human consequences of war and geopolitical violence through literature, art, and community events. By providing the public with works and voices from around the world, Consequence Forum promotes a clearer and more nuanced understanding of what’s at stake in choosing to wage war or engage in conflict. This corridor exhibition is on view concurrently with Spirit & Dust in the main Urban Arts Space gallery, centering themes of death and grief.
