Kylee Cannon is a senior Studio Art major at The Ohio State University. They enjoy movies, music, TV, reading, dancing, and fashion. In their free time, they enjoy learning new skills, baking, and traveling. They are passionate about education and art, and plan to mix the two by becoming an art teacher after graduation. They hope to improve the American education system, and the ways Americans engage in political discussions. Cannon hopes to bring their perspectives and life experiences in education and politics into both their art career and their future classroom in order to make people pay more attention to one another’s differences and reflect on the systems in which we exist.   

 

Words Cannon lives by are “To be cringe is to be free,” “Do it scared”, and “No pasa nada.” To them, “to be cringe…” means being unabashedly yourself, even in the face of adversity, and not caring what others think. It is important to stand by your beliefs and choices, especially when others make that difficult, and to be comfortable standing on your own. “Do it scared” has been important to them when trying new things. You might be scared to try new things or experiences, or to meet new people, but sometimes you have to do it scared, or you’ll never do it at all. Along that line of thinking, “No pasa nada,” translating to “don’t worry about it,” or “it is what it is,” has helped Kylee to have a more “Spanish" way of thinking: to not worry so much, not fret over the things you cannot change, and to take life just a little bit less seriously.
