Columbus Makes Art Presents Tyiesha Radford Shorts on Community, Storytelling and Resistance

Our newest Community Artist-in-Residence, Tyiesha Radford Shorts, was interviewed by Urban Arts Space Intern Sarah Jenkins for Columbus Underground!

"I am on a journey to reorient myself to what exactly is archive. In my family, there were times where folks would come together and share stories. I know detailed information about so many events I wasn’t alive for because of this oral tradition. One story involves my father and a near-drowning event when he was a child. My cousins, aunts and uncles would always recount how my grandparents dove into the water to save him, as well as the resulting fallout. This storytelling (the performativity, shared memory and repetition) builds on my own approach to historical and cultural transmission."
