ALL BECAUSE OF YOU, US is an installation that challenges the selfish nature of our current cultural climate. Acting as participants and witnesses, we have collectively normalized desensitizing behaviors towards one another. Whether we are aware of it or not, we frequently shield ourselves from the hardships, lives, and needs of those around us. This installation aims to create a space for reflection, encouraging individuals to confront their own complicity in perpetuating this self-centric culture. By shining a light on our shared responsibility, the project seeks to inspire positive change and foster a greater sense of empathy and connection.
Opening Reception: Friday, July 7, 5:00–6:00 PM
Community Night: Saturday, July 15, 5:00–7:00 PM
Closing Event: Friday, July 21, 5:00–6:00 PM
ALL BECAUSE OF YOU, US transcends the boundaries of its physical installation, embracing an interactive digital platform that amplifies its impact. This website serves as a virtual sanctuary for the anonymous sharing of thoughts and experiences. Participants are invited to actively contribute their writings and engage with the stories, experiences, and needs of others. By participating in this collective dialogue, we aspire to dismantle the barriers that perpetuate division and foster a pathway characterized by compassion and inclusivity. This digital platform empowers individuals to break free from their isolation and connect with others. It encourages genuine engagement, facilitating the exchange of perspectives and nurturing a sense of understanding and empathy—in hopes to continue an ongoing dialogue that has the power to break down the walls that separate us and ignite positive change in our society.
Join us in this digital space of connection and reflection, where your voice is valued, your experiences are acknowledged, and your empathy is celebrated.
Artist Statement:
To: You
From: The world that exists in your peripheral
To whom it may concern and to those who share no concern,
Welcome to our humble residence. We used to be a shoes off household, for mom wasn’t too fond of mud tracking into the house, but as of now I don’t see that being the biggest of her worries. So come on in, make yourself comfortable in the place you will soon forget about. It is not your home, so feel free to dismiss what you see fit. It is our pleasure to have you, and our hope is to reside within your frontal lobe for a maximum of 15 seconds. Please do not forget that this could never be you, and privilege is simply a godsend to those special enough to have it.
Best,
Another human being
