Get ready to unleash your creativity with Urban Arts Space as we are thrilled to announce April's Artist Commune: Fashion Show, where we will challenge ourselves to create garments out of thrifted clothing and recycled materials.
We invite visitors to participate in a clothing swap and then alter these clothes within an hour, using materials provided by Urban Arts Space. Please bring any clothing items and accessories you’d like to upcycle. Once the time runs out, artists will showcase their work on a runway and explain its significance to them.
In the spirit of Earth Day, we want artists to consider what sustainability means to them, using nature as a guiding theme. Explore the relationship between fashion and the natural world, and consider how you can adapt your creations to reflect this connection. What patterns, colors, and shapes can we draw from nature? How can fashion tell a story about our relationship with the natural world?
Inspirational Quotes:
“Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they’re still beautiful.” – Alice Walker
“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” – Henri Matisse
“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.” – Henry David Thoreau
“To leave the world better than you found it, sometimes you have to pick up other people’s trash.” – Bill Nye
Feel free to bring a friend and join us for an evening of hands-on art, discussions, and fashion where you can showcase your upcycled creations. Let's come together to celebrate creativity, sustainability, and the beauty of nature in fashion!
Artist Commune is a recurring event hosted by Urban Arts Space that allows artists and the community to come together to create art, discuss art, and network.
