February’s Artist Commune celebrates Black History Month with a two-day Ode to Hip-Hop, featuring Urban Arts Space in collaboration with Maroon Arts Group at the Maroon (formerly the Pythian Theatre) at 867 Mt. Vernon Ave. in Columbus.
At its foundation, Hip-Hop is a culture, genre, and philosophy based around storytelling. The legends behind the most memorable parties, the reputations that precede the most notable MCs and B Boy crews. In Hip-Hop and in life, respect is given based on where you come from and what your journey is. Most importantly, telling our story helps us connect to whoever is listening, and guarantees we won’t be misrepresented or forgotten.
At our show, we will highlight the most vivid stories from Hip-Hop’s History. We’ll also highlight the most important stories of Columbus Hip- Hop, focusing on untold stories and lesser known pioneers. Not only will visitors be able to learn stories, they’ll be able to share their own—about Hip-Hop, Columbus, and our community.
