In continuation of Irrepressible Soul's mission to empower the Black community through creativity, we will be hosting a block party on August 26 at the MPACC Box Park in the heart of Columbus's historically Black neighborhood of Mt. Vernon. We'll celebrate fifty years of hip-hop—one of the world's most impactful cultures rooted in the Black experience—with an immersive gallery inside of our "Foundation to Future" buildout. Enjoy music from homegrown DJs, food, vendors, health resources, and games for the entire community. We'll also highlight Afrofuturism through the lens of community, spotlighting artwork from Urban Arts Space's artist-in-residence, Arris' J. Cohen.
The community block party also marks the launch of the upcoming exhibition at Hopkins Hall Gallery celebrating computer graphics pioneer Charles Csuri, which opens on August 28. In connection with Csuri's legacy and eye toward innovation, "Foundation to Future" will provide interactive experiences with AR/VR as well as resources for community members to further develop their tech literacy. Come join us on the Ave on August 26 from 2–8 PM.
