“By complicating traditional forming processes and familiar objects, I want to use this work to create a conversation about how we recognize and understand visual information. The pieces shown are made after my MFA thesis exhibition and are a reflection on my own idiosyncratic ways of working. Materially, these sculptures will be made of wood, ceramic, fabric, and plastic-combining manual processes of making with digital fabrication techniques. This exhibition will show a new series of collages made from a variety of transparent and semi-translucent materials to explore what it means to look at and through an object simultaneously. These works employ different patterns and opacities to complicate the flat spaces they depict, creating images and landscapes that are only partially congruent with our world and logic.” - John Masello
