[Title TBD]: a collectively themed painting exhibition
on view at Hopkins Hall Gallery
[Title TBD] is a collectively themed painting exhibition presented by students enrolled in Advanced and Multi-level Painting in the Department of Art. So often our projects, courses and exhibitions have pre-determined themes to which artists respond. Instead, what might happen when students are asked to collaboratively find a theme for a group exhibition? Furthermore, how might they connect, imagine and explore together to determine a theme that is meaningful to each artist individually but also to the group as a whole? [Title TBD] will displace the authority of the singular curatorial vision to the group decision, asking these art students to speak together to find a common—if complex—thread that they share and want to exhibit together.
[Title TBD] is presented in partnership with Urban Arts Space's Hybrid Arts Lab, a multi-venue learning lab that experiments with how art is imagined, made, viewed and understood.
The SP21 sections of Advanced Painting (ART 5154) and Multi-level Painting (ART 4254) are taught by Laura Lisbon, Department Chair and Professor in the Department of Art.
