A photographic film negative carries the trace of a specific person who pressed the camera shutter in a certain time and space. Together we trouble the questions of how photographs engage truth, touch, and remembering.
An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday, May 12, from 4–5 PM at Hopkins Hall Gallery.
About the Artists
Geren Heurtin: Through photography, I am navigating spaces between abstraction, nonverbal communication, vulnerability, and trauma. What happens when you can’t visualize a difficult memory, but it is deeply felt in the body?
Julia Matejcek: I make photographs with the more-than-human world—the greater community of landscape and animals that includes yet decenters the human. I often make camera-less photographs, which I mediate by touch.
